
Steve Libreri is the former Director of Child Protection Services. After graduating with honours in Social Work from the University of Malta in 2008, he began a professional journey that led him to specialise in forensic-style work within the field of child protection.
Throughout his career, Steve played a key role in redesigning the service’s internal structures to better align with international best practices in forensic investigations related to the protection of minors. He also oversaw the integration of new duties introduced by the 2017 legislation, ensuring they were properly implemented within the system.
After serving as the de facto Director for five years, Steve concluded his tenure at the Directorate when, in 2023, he was appointed Commissioner for the Welfare and Development of Inmates by the President of Malta.
